Automatic Cleanup

Petrified Gammaltroll bodies and their broken remains are automatically removed after six hours of real elapsed time. This clears abandoned remains without requiring players to return and finish breaking them apart.

What gets removed?

The cleanup applies to:

  • The intact petrified body.

  • Fractured body remains.

  • Separate arm and leg fragments.

Each object has its own six-hour timer. If breaking a body creates new fragments, those fragments receive their own lifetime when the server first records them.

Living Gammaltrolls are outside this cleanup rule.

When does the timer start?

The server records a timestamp when it first registers an eligible body or fragment.

Normally, this happens when the object is created. Existing remains without a recorded timestamp start their timer when the server first encounters them; their earlier age is not guessed.

Loading the object again or receiving an update does not reset an existing timestamp.

Is this real time or in-game time?

The lifetime uses real-world time, rather than in-game days.

  • Sleeping does not fast-forward the timer.

  • Leaving the area does not pause it.

  • Server restarts do not reset a saved timestamp.

  • Time while the server is offline counts toward the recorded age.

An expired object is removed when the running server next checks it.

Do wards or nearby players protect the remains?

No. This timed cleanup does not check for nearby players, workbenches, wards or buildings.

Standing beside the remains, enclosing them in a building or placing a ward nearby does not extend their lifetime.

Damaging an existing piece also does not restart its timer. A newly created fragment is a separate object with its own timer.

Why might remains last slightly longer?

Removal happens during the server’s periodic cleanup checks, rather than at the exact six-hour second.

Cleanup also waits while a world save is pending. An eligible object can therefore remain briefly beyond its lifetime before a later check removes it.

Should I harvest them before cleanup?

Yes. Automatic cleanup removes the object directly; it does not mine the remains for you or produce their normal harvesting drops.

Collect any resources you want before the timer expires. Automatically cleaned-up remains are marked against respawning through the server’s object-respawn system.
