Progression Server

Welcome to the Progression Server, the starting point for your Viking adventure! This server offers a unique, community-driven experience tailored to a slower progression pace, enhanced by mods to create an MMO-like atmosphere while maintaining a near-vanilla Valheim feel. Below, you’ll find everything you need to know to embark on your journey.

Overview

The Progression Server is designed to provide a balanced and inclusive experience, allowing players of all skill levels to progress together. Key features include:

  • Slow Progression: Managed through Era Gating, ensuring everyone has time to catch up.
  • Seasonal Resets: The server resets each season, so focus your long-term building projects on the Eternal Server (Main), which is never wiped.
  • Resource Hub: After defeating the final boss and earning the Berserker title, the Progression Server serves as a resource-gathering hub, particularly for metals and tar, to preserve the Main Server’s terrain.
  • MMO Enhancements: Mods facilitate a multiplayer-focused experience, including a Respawn System, dungeon/resource respawn timers, ward limits, and personal portals (see Server Mods for details).

Server Mechanics

The Progression Server introduces unique mechanics to enhance gameplay and foster a cooperative environment. Explore the following topics for detailed information:

  • Server Seasons: Learn about seasonal resets and their impact on gameplay.
  • Era Gating: Understand how progression is paced through era-based milestones.
  • Titles: Discover the titles system, including how to become a Berserker.
  • Respawn System: Details on the respawn mechanics for a seamless MMO experience.
  • Territories: Information on territorial divisions and their role in the server.
  • Player Guides: Tips and strategies to enhance your Valheim experience.

Territories

The Progression Server uses the Territory Mod to manage key areas, ensuring fair land use and community access. Territories are added throughout the season based on which locations are found first. Note that the absence of a territory designation (e.g., for a Boss Altar) does not exempt it from building rules, as the territory will be enabled later.

Central Town

Central Town The Central Town is built and updated throughout the season to become the heart of the Progression Server, a hub where Vikings gather. Key features include:

  • Free Amenities: Access to free lodging, crafting stations, and smelters.
  • Maximum Rested Bonus: Stay in the town to gain the maximum rested bonus for the current era, which increases with each expedition event (see Events).
  • Road Network: An extensive system of roads for easy navigation across the server.
  • Boss Expedition Hub: The Central Town serves as the gathering point for weekly boss kill expeditions (see Events).

Warning: At the start of the server, refrain from building near the spawn point until the King selects the Central Town’s location. Once chosen, the area will be marked using the Territory Mod, prohibiting individual building. Any existing structures that violate this rule will be demolished without prior warning!

Portal Hub

The Portal Hub will be built in due time, once its location is decided by the King’s builders. It features a centralized network connecting to the Central Town, Traders (e.g., Haldor), Boss Altars, Sacrificial Stones, and other players’ bases (always get permission before visiting another player’s base, as portal hopping is considered rude). Players can claim a portal to link their base for convenient travel.

Boss Altars

Boss Altars are designated territories for weekly expeditions (see Events).

Warning: Territories for Boss Altars are not marked at the start of the season and will be added later. Exercise caution when building near altars, as per Server Rules. Building restrictions will apply as per rules, even if the territory was not established at the time of building.

Server Mods

While the Progression Server maintains a vanilla-like Valheim experience, carefully selected mods enhance the MMO atmosphere and streamline gameplay. Key mods include:

  • Dungeon and Resource Respawn Timers: Dungeons and resources (e.g., ore deposits, trees) regenerate on a set schedule to ensure consistent availability for all players. See Respawn System for details.
  • Ward Limit: The ward limit is set to the number of bosses a character has defeated. See Sunshine Wards for details.
  • Personal Portals: A custom mod created specifically for Sunshine Alley servers, allowing the player to place personal portals that link to public places (Central Town, Traders, Boss Altars, Sacrificial Stones) and other personal portals placed by the player. See Personal Portals for details.
  • Other Mods: Additional mods support the MMO experience, such as enhanced chat systems, player tracking, or event notifications. A full list is available at Mod List.

Getting Started

The Progression Server begins with players restricted to the Meadows biome, meaning mobs from other biomes yield no drops and resources from those biomes are not obtainable until the boss of the previous biome is defeated (see Era Gating). All bosses must be defeated in order. Here’s how to begin your adventure:

  • Enjoy the Game: Have fun doing whatever you find enjoyable, whether exploring, building, or crafting. Adhere to Server Rules, especially building restrictions for Territories.
  • Plan for Seasonality: As the server resets each season, save ambitious building projects for the Eternal Server (Main).
  • Visit the Central Town: Once built, the Central Town is available for crafting, resting, or joining weekly boss expeditions (see Events).
  • Claim a Portal: When the Portal Hub is built, visit to claim a portal to connect your base to the Central Town, Boss Altars, Traders, and other players’ bases (always get permission before visiting another player’s base, as portal hopping is considered rude).
  • Progress Through Eras: The server starts with the Meadows biome unlocked. Weekly boss expedition events unlock the ability to kill each boss in order (e.g., Eikthyr before The Elder). Kill bosses at your own pace - by joining the expedition event, alone or with your group. Check Discord’s announcements for expedition dates.
  • Join the Community: Connect with players via in-game chat or Discord for events, trading, and collaboration.

Additional Information

  • Server Rules: Review the Server Rules to ensure a positive experience for all players.
  • Events and Challenges: Participate in optional server-wide expeditions to defeat the boss of each era, tied to specific biomes. These events are announced on Discord and gather in the Central Town. Only expedition kills unlock the next biome for all participating characters; killing bosses outside expeditions won’t register for progression. See Events for details.
  • Technical Support: Encounter issues? Check the FAQ or contact admins via Discord.
